Meet our newest RGU Student Placement: Katie Oliver

Hi, I’m Katie Oliver, and I’m currently a 3rd-year student studying Business with Marketing at Robert Gordon University.

I am thrilled to be joining Arch 35 Marketing for my placement and look forward to gaining experience working with clients at a creative agency and contributing to content creation.

My journey

I have always considered myself to be a creative thinker and have enjoyed applying this through my experience working in different sectors, as well as throughout my time in education. Because of this, I knew I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to express my creativity while developing ideas that would connect with an audience.

My passion for the marketing industry began whilst completing my HND in Business at Northeast Scotland College. Throughout this experience, I gained knowledge on different marketing strategies, product and service promotion, and what influences consumer behaviour. The knowledge I gained through these area’s lead me to specialise in Marketing as I transitioned to university, to focus on learning the various techniques that can be used to capture consumer attention through effective Marketing strategies.

Marketing’s combination of creative and strategic elements is what drew me towards this industry. It allows me to express my ideas through developing content and drafting social media posts that will engage a client’s target consumers, while analysing the impact this has on consumer behaviour and how this reflects on a company’s performance. I am specifically interested in how marketing is more than highlighting a product or service and it’s how companies communicate their identity to build relationships with their customers.

Although I have previous experience with social media content through assisting with content ideas and social media engagement for a charity fundraiser campaign, I am looking forward to expanding my skills are create engaging content for client usage within an agency environment.

My role

During my time with Arch 35, I will be involved with creating content schedules, frequently updating both clients and Arch35’s social media pages and conducting market research. I will be contributing to the team by generating content ideas, drafting social media graphics, and assisting with content shoots across a range of clients. Arch35’s diverse client range will allow me to gain valuable experience working with different companies, audiences and marketing techniques.

My Placement with Arch 35 will allow me to develop an understanding of the techniques behind SEO marketing and how to utilise these strategies to improve a client's online visibility. From this, I will gather insights and generate reports based on a company’s SEO performance.

I would like to thank Darren for this opportunity and am looking forward to getting started with Arch 35 and working alongside Darren and Serena to support clients’ needs.
